Synthesizer

Turn on
the power,
and begin:

play the keys
twiddle the knobs,
change the filters.

Thankfully,
there are few rules,

only imagination
and sounds
never before produced,
only dreamt,

filling all that
empty
silent space,
with aural color,

and ignore the presets,
as they were made
for efficiency,
not experience.

Truly,
this synthesis of
the machine’s heart
and the creator’s soul,

working in concert,
can make
something
out of nothing,

wherein lies
the magic of art.

  1. Synthesizer--a word/instrument with a vast song, and you sing it well! I love the "aural color" and the imagination where the heart and soul join together to create something new. Wow.

  5. it is the art of creation - of joining that music, that instrument to create music. its not you. its not the machine. its not even the music. it is what is accomplished in coming together.

  6. I loved how this word moved like music...ebbing and flowing. And I felt a beautiful metaphor also bubbling up...

  11. Yes, a fine arts person engages that organ which is most underused in academia—the heart. Thereby creates "the magic of art"...
    So so beautiful, Mosk!
