They wrapped
the baby
in blue velvet
because he was
a boy.
Now,
he wear pinks
and pastels
and argyle
and gun metal gray
because he is
a man.
[Based on Prompt "What's Your Birthday" - the song is "Blue Velvet" by Bobby Vinton, #1 on September 27, 1963, the day I was born. Thanks to https://dversepoets.com/ for the idea.]
Real men do wear pink and pastels. I had lots of office dress shirts in the day that were very colorful.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS response to the prompt! So much is said in the few words of your poem. Thank you for responding to the prompt --- and for what it's worth....I can hear in my mind Bobby Vinton crooning that song my junior year in high school! :)
ReplyDeleteNice one Buddah. He acknowledges choice. He's a man

Loved this! An enchanting song too.
ReplyDeleteI have always wondered why men don't wear pink... I do that a lot, and even color my hair in pink from time to time.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this! And yes, why associate gender with colour? ππ
ReplyDeleteYEP! Real men wear pink!
ReplyDeleteLove the evolution here!! π
