My Luxury

My luxury,
though simple,
was my luxury
when I was 10,
and is still
my luxury
today:

to sit in
a darkened room
by an open window,
a slight chill
in the wind,
looking up at
the stars,

curled up,
listening
to a small,
faraway radio station
and following
wherever
the dream music
took me.

  1. there is some comfort in that simplicity...the silence of the cosmos and the grounding of the radio station...but i think its not one that is earthbound...keep dreaming sir...

  2. Thanks, bro. In a strange way, this feels like one of the most honest poems I ever wrote: no artifice, no technique, just the truth.

  3. Mosk, I remember doing the same kind of thing. I used to listen to faraway radio stations at night too....either somewhere where I was babysitting or in my own bed as I was lying there before I slept. And, oh, I could dream.....

    1. I love listening to stations on the East Coast of America, with me on the West, and enjoying the novelty that they're 3 hours ahead of me. Simple pleasures indeed.

  7. Yes. I love that - it would be especially nice in the cold season, wrapped in a blanket as you say. A few years back I bought some old radio shows - my kids thought they are corny, but I enjoyed them.

    My brudda,

See, you're still young at heart. Having found that place, that space which afforded you the time to simply be, to ponder... and still having it all these years later, is truly a gift from God.
The addition of the faraway radio station, drifting on the breeze, ooooh, that is so nice! Belated Happy Hanukkah! Riley is also celebrating on the Left Coast. Ameleh

This is gorgeous. The simplicity allows the images more power. Or maybe it's that I remember doing those exact same things as a youngster, when my thoughts were far simpler..? Either way, you've captured this beautifully.

  12. Sounds like heaven. I used to do that a lot as a kid but not in a long time now.
