She Cobbles a Placid Moment

With kids asleep,
hiding from
unfinished chores,
she cobbles
a placid moment,

exhaling smoke
from the bathroom window
into the cool,
unaccountable darkness.

Spying a distant,
familiar cluster
of red, white and blue
police lights,
muses,

 “I’m so glad
that’s not my life
anymore.”

  1. Oh, I've been there. Minus the cigarette. ;)

  7. I love the phrases 'she cobbles a placid moment'and 'unaccountable darkness'. This scenario reminds me of when my (then) four year old daughter and I lived in South London opposite the local police station. And yes, I'm glad that's not my life any more :)

  9. I like the idea if cobbling a placid moment. It sounds like if you find the proper ingredients, you can bake a solitude cake.
