Implicit in
every portal,
every entrance
every pathway
is a decision:
do this
or do that.
Most days
the choices
are overwhelming
and I rely
on habit,
other’s decisions
or time
to decide for me.
Today
I walked through
the door
that said
“try writing again,”
and now
that I have
crossed that threshold,
I stop to consider
whether
I carelessly
skipped over
the portal that said
“write something better
HERE!”

I hadn't seen your name for a while. So glad you came through the writing door. Don't stop!
ReplyDeleteGlad you crossed the first threshold, which is good enough =)
ReplyDeleteIt can be liberating to cross that threshold. I like how you define this process and that ending definitely tells a much longer story. :-)

Wow I love your quote at the starting! Beautiful poem
ReplyDeleteIt’s great to see you back – the door was opened in this prompt! Your words are so true about portals and decisions. So glad you decided to cross the threshold.
ReplyDeleteGood point about doors offering us a decision. May we hear to portal correctly.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back here, even if you hate poetry ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's always Neverland on the other side of the threshold, but it quickly becomes the norm. Relish the moment of clarity when we see through new unjaded eyes.
ReplyDeleteI love that you made that choice... good to have you back.
