Not a Great Mystery

As philosophies
dry up and wither away
in untouched bookcases,
remember,
it’s not a great mystery:

breathe in,
breathe out,
and help someone else along the way.

The world is an equation
but rarely is it
an equality.

Sometimes a “greater than,”
sometimes it’s a “less than,”

and if you need
to boil it down
further,
it’s this:

others first,
then you.

Anything else is
merely
narcissism.

  2. This is a meditation we all need -- the end is cutting but fits. Setting our selves aside, seeing others -- noticing how they breathe, what they need -- yes. Just yes. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Thanks for reminding us that we have many almost forgotten philosophies that really we should not forget.

  5. All my life, I have placed, the need of others, ahead of my own. To the point, I have been told, I need to be more aggressive, in fighting for my own needs, to be taken care of.
