Death came
and was ready to pluck
another bloom,
but She saw that I was
overwhelmed,
entangled
with tentacled tasks,
crying daughters,
numbers that wouldn’t
reconcile.
I saw Her
out of the corner of my eye,
but immediately turned back
to the problems
at hand.
I remembered
all these details
during my evening shower,
wondering if Death
had taken pity upon me,
or if I had scared her
away
for now.
This is SO good!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Forgive my hubris, but the twist at the end is an homage to MZ!
DeleteI would like to think that we really could scare death away when she comes a'lookin'.
ReplyDeleteI really think we do, but just for now.
DeleteLove this! I also write about Death a female and noticed you did too. Most people I've read refer to Death as male. Something to ponder (or not!)
ReplyDeleteI tend to refer to all things superhuman and awe-inspiring as feminine. including God, except I get too much crap from people if I mention God as Her - so I keep that one to myself. Thanks.
DeleteI love the idea that ignored death will turn away. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenny!
Deleteha. perhaps death saw that you were busy and will reschedule at a more convenience time....just keep yourself busy and you should be fine...smiels..
ReplyDeleteThanks, I literally thought this after a long day yesterday. "Death came but I was too busy so I sent Her away!"
DeleteI think she may have fear getting sucked into your chaos (crying daughters could scare just about anyone off). or maybe she just enjoyed your suffering too much.
ReplyDeletea very interesting piece.
Great job, poet friend!
ReplyDeleteI like to think I have ignored Her recently and she left...far to busy with other things to accommodate her...
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
I think you scared her, haha. Just kidding. Love the images. Love this.
