Public Service Poem #4: Expression

Every human creation

is an expression
of desire and will.

They can be
lifesaving vaccines,
jazz masterpieces,
kugel recipes,
beloved fables,

or they can be
pathological ideologies,
child pornography,
homemade dirty bombs,
Auschwitz.

So, I return to
the basic operating principle:

if it doesn’t make you
a better human being,
then stop it,

and find what will
make you
a better human being.

Better human beings
create better expressions
of desire and will.

I hope this
helped.

  2. I do long to create something beautiful; maybe one day, until then I'll do my best to create, instill and inspire better.

  4. I hope it helped, too. If only everyone strived to become a better human being instead of being fueled by resentment and jealousy...

  5. I am always amazed how many people have so much time to do such horrible things. It almost feels like they sit around just thinking about how to hurt other people. If only they'd spend that time trying to make life better instead of worse. Great poem. Gives people something to think about (hopefully).
