Just One Star

I look into the
limitless purple black
trying to focus on
just one star.

I am dizzied
and humbled.

I don’t have the right
to look up
and examine them
as though they were
specimens
in a laboratory,
for I am temporary
and replaceable,

inconsequential,

while the stars
are unreachable,
indestructible,
lasting longer than
the stones we use
to understand time.

I look up
into that massive
dark silence,
wondering if
someone
out there
is trying to find
me.

  1. Hi Buddah! This is such an interesting poem--on the one hand, we feel so puny compared to the stars--on the other, we wonder whether there is someone looking out for us--this is how humans are, I think--very human! Thanks for the lovely poem. k. (Manicddaily)

  2. I love the final question - it so encapsulates our reaching out for something beyond our understanding.

Thank you for the kind comment on my poem.

  5. 'for I am temporary
and replaceable...' ain't that the truth--but you seem to transcend it with the hope in those last lines.

  6. I love this. Especially since we both know He was always looking, and so happy to be with you. :)

Speaking of which, I'm so happy to be reading you again, my talented friend.

  8. I really like this, especially how the last stanza counters the stanza that says "I am temporary and replaceable." For if someone is really trying to find "us" (writer/reader) out there like a star, it seems we are not so easily replaceable.

  14. I really like best the thinking of a single star as a specimen and seeing it as wrong/impossible. Fascinating write.

  15. Yes, this is peaceful. We take our inner universe and lift it to the sky with questions knowing the answers won't come. Beautiful piece
