Autumn (A Quadrille)

Some call it fall
but Autumn has gravitas.

Everything engages my senses:
leaves crunching underfoot,
green apples
and cinnamon wafting,
sundown hastening,
in a cloudless sky,
I marvel.

She’s a mournful beauty,
a defiant burst of color,
before surrendering
to the sleep
of winter.

[for D'Verse Poets a Quadrille, if you will with the word "cloud."]

  16. I don't care for fall because winter follows so closely on its heels, but you've made it beautiful and endearing today. Thanks.

  17. Simply gorgeous. And I love the "has gravitas" thought. Perfect.

  18. I thought sure I commented...you had me at "gravitas" - even before all the sights and scents within.

She does have a solemn feel to her...she has to bridge the lighthearted summer to the dormancy of winter. But she does it with such splendor in spite of that.

  20. We both seemed to be entranced by a cloudless sky on an autumn day. I went to the mountains over the weekend to enjoy the fall foliage.
