I do not believe
in happy endings
or dreams coming true,
because nothing
ever really ends
and dreams
are not real.
However,
I believe in
spontaneous music,
idiomatic orgasms,
laughing pizza,
trusting puppies,
falling asleep
beside her,
her soft, sweet exhale:
these are real.

I agree:

and I love the romance in the final lines.
Spot on.
ReplyDeleteI like the laughing pizza.
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE this.
ReplyDeleteI believe in all of those things, too. :)
I admire your honesty here, and you are right - I don't think one of my dreams has ever come true either.
ReplyDeleteI love your howevers' however.

ReplyDeleteI think those are wonderful idiomatic dreams; just lived awake!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the puppies any day! Excellent poem.
ReplyDeleteGreat list of things real ... although I'm still pondering idiomatic orgasms !
ReplyDeleteWhat you believe in is so much better than a dream.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sara. Real beats dreams any day.

"her soft sweet exhale" is a reality to believe in, along with the laughing pizzas. Which pizzeria do you order from?
