I Brush Her Hair

I brush her hair
because it relaxes her,

and I am transfixed
as I watch the waves
of long silken honeygold
sway with each stroke
of my hand
at my command
like a sorcerer-king.

I silently marvel
at my good fortune
as she watches the TV
unaware of my rapture,

thousands and thousands
of strands
each one
beautiful,
perfect,
strong.

I pray
my luck holds out
and that I am given
one day with her

for every hair on
her head.

  7. I saw a man brush a woman's hair on the beach when I was about 18. It is one of those memories that merit a poem. It is fascinating how we all express our love differently. Lovely poem.

What a sensual love poem! I don't think the narrator is being entirely honest when he says he brushes because it relaxes her though😉

  9. This is just beautiful, Mosk! Such lovely sentiments. She is so lucky to have someone to brush her hair with so much love, and you are so fortunate to have someone you feel this way about.

  15. One day for every hair - that would be a wonderful blessing now wouldn't it. There is something about brushing someone's hair, it is rather like foot washing. A serving of them - and we get so much back.

    1. I like the comparison to foot washing. One day for every hair - that was me being all poetic.

  16. I feel this way about brushing my daughter's hair, just exactly this.
And have a similar but not-same experience of stroking my husband's hair away from his forehead with my fingers. Gah, sooooo wonderful, thank you Mosk!
