As philosophies
dry up and wither away
in untouched bookcases,
remember,
it’s not a great mystery:
breathe in,
breathe out,
and help someone else along the way.
The world is an equation
but rarely is it
an equality.
Sometimes a “greater than,”
sometimes it’s a “less than,”
and if you need
to boil it down
further,
it’s this:
others first,
then you.
Anything else is
merely
narcissism.
Perfect. The line breaks are marvelous.
ReplyDeleteThis is a meditation we all need -- the end is cutting but fits. Setting our selves aside, seeing others -- noticing how they breathe, what they need -- yes. Just yes. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh yes... we need to keep this in mind, the me is one of the words that should often be replaces with you or we...
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding us that we have many almost forgotten philosophies that really we should not forget.
ReplyDelete..
All my life, I have placed, the need of others, ahead of my own. To the point, I have been told, I need to be more aggressive, in fighting for my own needs, to be taken care of.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with MZ.. great pace and control in the structure of this monologue.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!
ReplyDeleteSo true.
