Matches (Nov 1 Prompt: Matches)

Matches
(whether wooden
or in cardboard
matchbooks)
usually look alike,
almost
interchangeable.

Human matches
rarely ever
look alike
on the outside,

but inside
all their souls
need
is a little
oxygen and
the proper balance
of friction,
intensity,
contact,

and they will

start a fire
and warm a
moonlit beach,

light a candle
and make the flesh of two
into one,

shine a light
and guide us
out of the darkness.
